S.T.E.A.M. Magnet Center

S.T.E.A.M. stands for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. It is an integrated approach to holistically teaching the “whole child” by engaging students in hands on, inquiry based learning experiences. The arts is included as the driving process behind creativity and the development of solutions to real world challenges. In addition, the arts as a discrete field of study is included in the core curriculum as a critical aspect of each student’s educational program. STEAM is unique in that students are building functional literacy across the traditional STEM fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while also participating in integrated and interdisciplinary fields of study that include the language arts, physical sciences, social sciences, and the arts.

There are three theme-based pathways available to students within the magnet and are based on each child’s passions and interests. Families interested in applying to the magnet program must submit an application on the District’s magnet website, echoices.lausd.net or complete an application in the Choices brochure.
