Vision and Mission
District Mission Statement
The teachers, administrators, and staff of the Los Angeles Unified School District believe
in the equal worth and dignity of all students and are committed to educate all students to their maximum potential.
School Vision and Mission
Daniel Webster Middle School is committed to providing all learners with an excellent education through rigor, relevance, and respect in order to create a community of scholars ready to achieve their maximum potential.
Vision
In a safe and secure setting that enables students to develop the skills and values necessary to become productive citizens, all students will be provided with a curriculum that fosters rigor, relevance, and respect:
Rigor: Scholars are challenged by curriculum that connects content, higher level thinking and the sensible application of information. Curriculum is paced with appropriate scaffolds to make sure students have access to the content, build their skills and then exceed and demonstrate mastery. Essential questions and backwards planning allow pacing guides and higher level questions to guide student learning. Offering a college ready program campus wide and additional support through AVID, Webster offers courses aligned to the A-G requirements with a program that offers the arts and foreign language. Our campus culture, course, and extracurricular activities align with the demands of high school and college to ensure that all students have the opportunity, experience, and information to go to college.
Relevance: Personalized Learning Environments extend the rigor to projects where students demonstrate mastery through cross-curricular projects, technology and real world application. Personalized Learning Environments in the form of grade level villages create smaller, more personalized communities within the current framework of a comprehensive middle school. Teams within the grade levels will work to create meaningful learning experiences for students. Webster strives to create a culturally relevant and responsive environment that supports students in honing and exploring their interests and applying them to their curricular program through investigation and unique learning experiences.
Relevance also plays a role in monitoring instruction and the connection between what students are actually learning what we are teaching. As this work evolves, students will take a leadership role as they gain mastery in understanding their learning and their role in their own educational process.
Respect: Webster strives to be a place were all members are actively engaged in learning. Requires a community where there is respect between all stakeholders. Webster is a place that respects diverse cultures. All learners are welcome and support each other.
Webster is a place that actively supports the protection of the natural environment and the green space on campus and in the world. Students will participate in service learning projects throughout their time at Webster as well as completing hours of community service.
